Winter here yet?

Well I am knitting up case it gets really cold here this year. It has been quite cold every morning already. Started a pair of slippers for myself, but I knitted too many rows and they ended up fitting Paul, so I need to knit another pair for myself. heres a picture and he basic pattern for them, they are a bit loose around my toes, they are supposed to be snug fitting, but it will do for a picture.

Pattern:

Use 2x 8 ply wool or at least a 12 ply.

Cast on 29 stitches
Knit 9, purl 1, knit 9

Continue until bottom of toes reached.

Do ribbing (knit 1 purl1) Until top of big toe.

Cast off by passing thread through loops and pull tight. sew up top of foot (leave an ankle hole)
Sew up back of heel.

But untill I can make myself a fitting pair I have made myself some cute little handwarming fingerless mittens. These are easy to make and I got the pattern from this site. http://down---to---earth.blogspot.com/ I also got my recipe for my soap here, which turned out pretty good. I will take photos of the soap and post them on here tomorrow. Next days off I am aiming to make some teatree oil soap also.

Here is the pattern and picture of the mittens.

Pattern: (straight from the website)(by the way I am hopeless at knitting ribbing yet, so I do knit normal for my things where it say's ribbing.)

Cast on 52 stitches, leave a tail of yarn a few inches long for sewing up later.

This is for a man's hand, you would do 40 or 44 for a woman's.

Make the wrist band by knitting a rib - two plain and two purl for the entire row and continue that until you have the length of wrist band you like.

Try to find a spare hand to measure on as you're knitting.

Then knit plain for most of the mitten. Keep building it up until you come to half way between the base of the index finger and the first joint.

Go back to the rib knit to finish off - two plain, two purl, until you knit up to the first joint on the middle finger, then cast off.

Sew the mitten along the side seam with the strands of yarn at both ends of your mitten, leaving a hole for the thumb to poke through.

Depending on how much time you have it will only take a day or two to complete. If you're knitting for a woman, you might like to add some buttons or wool embroidery to the finished mittens.

  1. Very colourful bootees and sound easy to make. I'm going to have a go when I get around to unearthing my needles etc.

  2. Yes they are pretty easy. those pair I actually made incorrectly, just knitted the whole lot and did some stocking stitch for the toe area. Thy are still very comfy. So even basic knitting can get the job done.
