While it has certainly been hectic around here with the puppies in the house, a lot still seems to be getting done... I think. Well the house work continues to be done. Gardening and chickens are all taken care of. There is also the house to look after now, which does need some small repairs and basic TLC to make it a really beautiful home. Things still happen around here, even if it does seem to be just the daily running of the household. Prices seem to have gone up everywhere, always making life more interesting. Trying to find new ways to save money is always fun. trying them out, not always so. Some instances, it may be better to continue what you were doing to save money in the long term.
We still have to buy fruit and veggies, as though our garden is growing, it is still quite a small harvest and has taken a lot of money and time to get it to this stage. Now it is up and running, we can try and grow what we would normally eat in this climate. I have tried cauliflower twice now, little grubs have eaten them out each time. It is such a struggle to save what I have left in the garden. Broccoli seems to be doing much better, which is strange. Some tomatoes have appeared now and I will have to keep an eye on them to make sure grubs don't get to them before we do. I check the garden regularly for all these things and weeds can also be a problem, if I don't pull them out as I go, it becomes a huge job that takes too much time.
Other then finding ways to save money, there is doing small jobs for cash. I was thinking of maybe doing some ironing in my spare time. Or maybe even doing small alterations on clothes as I have a sewing machine. Just things like hem's or darts. Just small jobs though, so it doesn't impact around here too much. It is something I can do in the evenings or early mornings around work. We also sell the extra chicken eggs for $2, so very cheap for free range eggs. The eggs don't really make us any money, but it does pay for the chickens feed which does save us money. Always thinking up different things for around the house can be fun and challenging at the same time.
The weather here has gotten very cold. I am hoping the garden and chickens will stand up to the weather. So far it has gotton as low as 5C and some outlying areas have had frost already. I think it is going to a very cold winter this year. I will have to really get stuck into the knitting and get everything finished for those cold nights.
